  • What Is Link Popularity

Link popularity refers to the number and the quality of sites that have links to your website. Link popularity helps in driving traffic to your site and in increasing your page rank in google and other search engines. Of course various search engines have different algorithms in determining the popularity of a site. Link popularity measures the popularity of your website by the number of backlinks and incoming links of your website. Simply put, it counts the number of websites that have links pointing to your site. It is also sometimes referred to as Link analysis.

Google’s Page Rank, developed by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in Stanford University uses link popularity in determining the relevance or importance of a website. Each link is considered a vote for the website. This is under the premise that a link serves as an endorsement of the website. Not all links have the same value. Page Rank assigns a numerical value or weight to each element of a linked website. This being said, links from pages with better PR weighs more than links from pages with low PR. Links from pages that are related to your website also weigh more than random links from unrelated websites. Significant websites also carry more weight than unknown websites such as unpopular blogs.

The key in improving link popularity is by developing quality links and not just farming out several links to insignificant websites. The number of links is important but the quality is much more important. A link from a reputable website will rank better than two links from link lists and link farms. Building a good link network requires a lot of time and effort.

Webmasters usually discard email requests for links because they don’t see the value in linking up with some websites. The best way to ensure that websites will be interested to link you up is by creating a professional looking and informative website that will add value to the other web sites. If you have a poorly developed website, do not expect web masters to be eager to link you up. Keep your website interesting and if you are an expert in your field, make sure you keep it up-to-date. This way, website owners will see the value in linking you up.

Be patient in building a network of links. Obtaining links from good websites will take time. If you do not have time to invest, you can have professional link builders do the job for you. These link builders will do all the work for you including analyzing and prepping up your website for link development and SEO. Some link builders can write articles specific to your requirement and upload them with links to various websites. You can choose the topics even the keywords that you want to use as anchor texts.
